Example Paragraph using citations

Declarative knowledge is the ability to state that you know or understand something. According to Smith and Ragan (2005), declarative knowledge is often associated with rote learning; however, "To the contrary, declarative knowledge is generally acquired within meaningful structures” (p. 152). Moreover, people best learn and use declarative knowledge when it is linked to prior knowledge. To do this we employ cognitive strategies such as linking, organizing, elaborating, and inference: “In fact, the heart of the process of learning declarative knowledge is this creation of meaning” (p.155). There are many strategies for declarative learning, most of which may be “… implemented as either supplantive instruction or generative,” depending upon factors such as time, learner aptitude and previous knowledge (Smith & Ragan, 2005, p. 156).
